As an existing signed Shrapnel artist, any magazine promotion at the time was seen as a conflict of interest. Perhaps one of the reasons his name, and playing did not attract the same acclaim as his peers is because he was never featured in the, star-making, Guitar Spotlight column which thrust so many players of the day into the limelight. Joey’s guitar story took another turn when he relocated to L.A and attended the legendary music school, G.I.T. Urban Hymns is a great album but without McCabe's textures I think it would have just been a pretty average affair, much like Ashcroft's output since.During the ‘80s, Joey was part of, the now infamous, Shrapnel Records cohort, releasing recordings alongside the likes of shred guitar poster boys such as Paul Gilbert, Vinnie Moore and Richie Kotzen, to name but a few. ADAM JONES Adam Jones has made a living from his art in video, painting, sculpture, digital and conventional art and is known for his wide ranging sound on guitar.

I'd also add Adrian Utley of Portishead- crunchy retro spy movie twang and tape echo coolness with a large helping of disgusting fuzz. Coxon, Hawley (Longpigs first record is bloody marvellous) and Greenwood were my favourites, but I'd include Ed O'Brien too- he's less immediately obvious than Greenwood, but his ambient sounds and ringing, Smiths-y Rickenbacker lines are ever bit as admirable.
